Oporto ‘Light Up You Tastebuds’ TVC, OOH & social campaign.

The NEW Oporto ‘Light Up Your Tastebuds’ advertising TVC, digital OOH, stills OOH and social Andy Lewis directed and shot. Huge team effort and thank you to everyone involved.

Mark Harricks, Brendan Donnelly and Amanda Slatyer from agency New Colony came to me with a super fun brief to bring to life from Oportos Ben Simmons and Kim Wright. Matt Chee, Tamiko Chee, Freya Berentsen and Bec Deasy from Chee Productions helped pull in all the right crew and keep everything on Schedule.

The idea was to emphasis the frill and deliciousness of enjoying Oporto chicken before entering into a surreal animated taste world within the customers / talents mouth.

I wanted to do this by using the dolly zoom camera technique but not just one, two. Plus we added a camera barrel roll at the end of the video element to help the transition into the animated world all within 3.5secs! Animated world was created by Darren Price from Mighty Nice Sydney.

Before we could even start filming we built a set at BAKER STREET STUDIOS Sydney. Adam Powell and Tamara Turnbull designed our set and in a very short amount of time sourced everything needed to construct an Oporto restaurant in the studio on shoot day! Myself and DOP Tony Luu worked with Daniel Miller – moco operator to program in the camera movement on the robot arm. We then worked with Jono Heighes to program the zoom / focus of the camera / lens.

With both the fluid movements and the lens control we achieved the double dolly zoom I wanted. To emphasis the the moment of the talents bite even more we worked with Miles Jones and Alex Murray to program the selected background lights to dim when the camera moved in on the talent. Jason Weekes with Kane Grosvenor supplied grip to help build the set and help put all the lighting where we required.

Food Stylist Georgina Ropiha and food prep Sarah-Jane Hallett worked over hot stoves on a hot day to create a delicious looking plate of food and keep it looking good over all the takes.

Lucia Arias-Martinez worked wonders with the wardrobe and Dempsey Rai took control of hair and makeup. Casting for our talent Mathew Waters. Male talent was Ezana Aga and the female talent version was Ashleigh Lindsay.

And finally some say the most important element Clément Bouchet gave the footage the final seasoning by adding his magical colourist touch. Thank you team!

And here is how the TVC was made. Not in a Oporto restaurant but in a studio.
